Milkha Singh was a former sprinter of track and field. By profession, he was an army man and he was the first Indian athlete to win the gold medal in the commonwealth.
He was honored with Padma Shri award in 1959 for his tremendous representation of India in Summer Olympics conducted in Melbourne, Rome, and Tokyo.
