Dadabhai Naoroji was elected to the British house of commonsfrom the Finsbury Central Constituency in the elections of 1892 by a narrow margin of 3 votes by defeating Fredrick Thomas Penton. Being a subject of theBritish crown (Being a citizen ofBritish India) he was allowed to take part in the election.

Naoroji moved to Britain once again and continued his political involvement. Elected for the Liberal Party in Finsbury Central at the 1892 general election, he was the first British Indian MP.
