The British Colonial Government engaged India into the World War II without the consent of its people. In order to overcome the decision of the Government, the Congress party launched individual satyagraha.
A strategy was prepared whereby their supporters and the party organisation were asked to arrange for the mass movement. Around 15th May 1941 nearly 25,000 satyagrahis were arrested . Soon after their release the national leadership were concerned about India’s security.
In December 1941, the working committee of Congress party passed a resolution supporting the British in their war effort but on the pretext that a total freedom would be granted by them to the Indians at the end of the war.
