The First Inspector General of forest in India was Dietrich Brandis .
As forest in India during the British rule was diminishing because of supply of timber for boats , cultivation and use of forests by local people , the British decided invite a German expert Dietrich Brandis and he was made the First Inspector General of forests in India .
