In 1827, Prince Gamadhar Konwar of Ahom with his confidante Dhananjoy Borgohain was the first to revolt against the British. The British had annexed Assam from the Ahoms with the Treaty of Yandabo. It was at a place called Mariani that Prince Gamadhar Konwar organised the first revolt.
