SARS IS A VIRUL DISEASE it causes fever dry cough breathing difficulty with weakness in body it was first effected in China 2002 and it can be cured , by the wayThere is no confirmed treatment that works for every person who has SARS. Antiviral medications and steroids are sometimes given to reduce lung swelling, but aren’t effective for everyone.

SARS or severe acute respiratory syndrome.

1)The first patient of SARS was reported on February 26 2003 in China. In India first patient of SARS was Prasheel Verde of Goa.

2) Causing agent: Human coronavirus (HCV). It is a new member of influenza virus family which is considered as a mutant form of influenza virus. Human coronavirus has 2-10 days incubation period.

3) Mode of transmission: Human coronavirus spreads through contact, respiratory secretions and especially cockroaches.

4) Symptoms: Symptoms usually include cold dry cough, headache, loss of appetite, high temperature, muscle stiffness, malaise (feeling of bodily discomfort, but without clear signs of a particular sickness), fever and hypoxia at later stage followed by muscular stiffness, malaise (continues).

5) Diagnosis: It is diagnosed by ELISA (Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay.

6) Prevention: Patients of SARS should be separated from other patients and placed in their own hospital room. Health care workers and visitors should wear efficient filter masks, goggles, aprons, head covers and gloves when in close contact with the patient. Screening for SARS at points of entry like airports and keeping neighbourhoods clean with no spitting or urination in public places are some equally but highly important measure to be taken place.

7) Cure: While some medicines have been tried, no drug can, at this time, be recommended for prophylaxis or treatment. Ribivarin with some corticosteroids is found effective in Hong Kong. Ribivarin is chosen as the most effective antiviral agent (or chosen as such). Methylprednisolone in the form of pulse therapy is also effective.
