There were many people who were at the forefront of the Revolution Society. Among the prominent members, one can name Joseph Priestley, Richard Price, Abraham Rees, Andrew Kippis, Thomas Belsham, Theophilus Lindsey, Peter Finch Martineau and Thomas Brand Hollis as the founders of the society.

The London Revolution Society was established in 1788, probably to commemorate the hundred years of the landing of William III and for the Glorious Revolution of 1688.

In the 1790s, it was one of many radical societies of Britain. Other similar types of Revolutionary Societies were also formed in cities like Norwich, which competed with Sheffield as the focal point of English Jacobinism.

A lot of members of the London Revolution Society were also members of the Society for Constitutional Information (CSI) from 1780–1794.

Together with some Anglicans, there were a large number of Unitarians and English Dissenters who were the founder of this Society.

During the Bastille fall in July 1789, this society raise a lot of noises and was the most prominent amongst the radical societies.
