The greatest social reformer among the Muslims was Sir Syed Ahmed Khan who belonged to a family of nobles in the Mughal court.

He founded the translation Society later known as the Scientific Society to translate English books on science and other subjects in Urdu. He also established the Mohammedan Anglo-Oriented College in Aligarh in 1857 later college was raised as Aligarh Muslim University.
