Prabhakaravardhana was the king of Sthanvisvara and belonged to the Vardhana clan. He was the first ruler of the Vardhana dynasty, having its capital at Thanesar (present Kurukshetra district, Haryana).
Prabhakar Vardy's wife, Queen Yashovati had given birth to 2 sons Harshavardhana and Rajyavardhana, and a daughter who was named Rajyashri. The daughter later married King Grahavarman (The Maukhari king) of Kanyakubja, contemporary Kannauj.
However, Grahavarman a few years later, was defeated and killed by the Malwa King, Devagupta and after Grahavarman’s death, queen Rajyashri was cast into prison by the Malwa king. Rajyashri’s Rajyavardhana who was the ruler of Thaneswar then could not accept this insult towards his family, therefore he trooped against Devagupta and overpowered him.
