In 1774, king Louis XVI of the bourbon family ascended the throne just at the age of 20. By the time he became the king, the treasury was empty. So, to restore the treasury, he increased the taxes. Taxes were only paid by the people of third estate. He married Marie Antoinette, the princess of Austria in 1770.

He, along with his wife were executed by guillotine in the Place de la Revolution in Paris in the year 1793.
