Mihirakula

Explanation:

  • Mihirakula was the King who had ruled Kashmir between the period 704-634 BCE and was from the "Gonanda Dynasty". Mihirakula had developed a passion for physical training & war since his childhood
  • Mihirakula was sadistic in nature. He had enforced law & order by stringent punishments. He used to barbaric and cruel things like torturing his prisoners and deriving satisfaction from their screams. He killed all those who revolted against him
  • He used to worship Yama, Betala, however he was never content with all the mass murders that he had committed. One night his deity had appeared in a dream, saying that by next morning he will find the source of more satisfaction.
  • A big scream came in from close mountains, when Mihirakula had woke up in the morning the next day. On inquiry he learnt that during the routine military exercise, an elephant from his army (the king had a large elephant & cavalry-driven army) slipped together with the cliff rock of the mountain and died. As the elephant had slipped off the cliff, "the elephant screamed along with Mahout", and then the king had realised his satisfaction.
  • From the next day, the King instructed the Mahouts to take elephants on the cliff before sunrise and fall off together with rock cliff. Every morning the King awoke, with sounds of elephants who were screaming  in fear of death. The dead bodies of the elephants and mahouts were recovered and cremated each day Every day, in its original position, mountain cliffs were replaced and the  elephants and Mahout had to slip off. The routine of King was to awake with "screaming sounds of elephants while falling off the cliff"
  • King ordered the cliff rock that had fallen along with the elephant down to be pulled up and returned to the cliff, . It took a whole day to accomplish this and several soldiers died in this process.
  • There were Mahouts who rebelled, but they were thrown away from mountain top. This entire process had lasted for 150 days, and ultimately, Mihirakula was satisfied and stopped this elephant killing process.
