Explanation:

Libya's iconic resistance leader Omar Mukhtar (1862-1931), known as Lion of Desert who spent the last 20 years of his life fighting the fascist Italian occupation of his country, will forever be remembered as the world-renowned "Desert Lion."

Mukhtar was killed 87 years ago — on Sept. 16, 2931 — by Italian occupiers, but he remains a symbol of resistance against impossible odds for successive generations of Libyan youth.

1862: Omar Mukhtar was born in Zawlyat Janzur on Libya's Eastern coast.

1899: He fought French colonial forces who tried to invade southern Sudan and Chad.

1911: Italians started the Invasion of Libya, with the navy attacking Benghazi and Tripoli. Mukhtar defeated the Italians with the vast knowledge of geography and brilliant war tactics, being nicknamed " Lion of the Desert" for the success. Many Italian governors headed back home upon consecutive defeats.

1930: Locals in Jabal al Akhdar was forcibly removed by Italian forces and placed in concentration camps along the shores..

1931: Mukhtar was ambushed, wounded and captured . He was sentenced to death by an Italian military tribunal . On Sept 16, he was executed.

HIS MEMORY IS STILL VIVIDLY REMEMBERED BY LIBYANS AND ALL OTHER ANTI-IMPERIALISTS SKILL.
