He was originally named as Zhou Dunshi and born in Youngzhou province.   Zhou Dunshi was the master archive keeper of Chou state according to tradition.   He was popularly known as the " Poor Zen Fellow ".  He died when he was close to Mount Lu in the year 1073.  He was one of the most renowned Confucian philosophers and cosmologists.
