Devpala, the son and successor of Dharampala is being described as the most able and powerful ruler of Pala dynasty of Bengal.

He ascended the throne after the death of his father in early 9th century and extended the Pala Kingdom to present day Assam and Orissa and won many victories in the South as well.

He was the staunch follower of Buddhism and thus built many temples and monasteries.
