By the 7th century there were big landlords or warrior chiefs called Samantas.

They were expected to bring gifts for their kings or overlords, to be present at the courts and provide them military support.

Gradually, Samantas gained power and wealth and assumed tittles of Maha-Samanta and Maha-Mandaleshvara (Great Lord of The Region).

Eventually many of them became powerful enough to dethrone kings and establish their own empires.

Thus, in mid-eighth century, Dantidurga, a Rashtrakuta Chief, overthrew his Chalukya overlord and established the Rashtrakuta Dynasty.

He performed a Ritual called Hiranya-Garbha to be 'reborned' as a Kshatriya.

This took really a lot of Hard Work
