After Humayan, his son Akbar succeeded him as emperor of the Mughal Empire in 1555 AD. He took over Chanderi in 1569 AD and made it a sarkar (important centre) of the Malwa suba. In 1605 AD, Jehangir, on behalf of the Mughal court, handed over the rule of Chanderi to theBundela Rajputs.
