William born in 1811, son of Anthony and Mary (Stephens) Pollexfen.

He was baptized 18 Apr 1811 Brixham, Devon, England, United Kingdom[1] [2]

William spent his childhood in Kitley, Devon, England, near the Cornish border. At the age of 12 he left home, took to the sea, and eventually found his way to Sligo, Ireland. There he had a second cousin, Elizabeth Pollexfen, whose husband , William Middleton, had a successful milling business, and was a ship owner. William Middleton, at the time of William Pollexfen's arrival in Sligo, had recently died from cholera in 1832. William Pollexfen offered his assistance to his cousin Elizabeth. William Pollexen partnered with the Middleton family, i.e William Middleton Junior 1819-1882, adding the Sligo Steam Navigation Company in 1857. William Pollexfen became a wealth and prominent member of the Sligo community.[3][4]

William married Elizabeth Middleton, the daughter of his second cousin, Elizabeth Middleton. William and Elizabeth had 12 children, all but the fifth child living to adulthood
