Answer:

Dupin (The Murders in the Rue Morgue, E.A. Poe)

This character astonishes me by his intelligence. He might seem some kind of harbinger for Sherlock Holmes, and I believe that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle used this one as an example. Dupin is witty, smart; he is deeply interested in science, and is able to be logic even being down to the wire. Nobody could ever imagine what the case was about - and he managed to set all ducks in a row.

But unlike Robert Langdon, the personage of the modern literature, Dupin lacks inner world. We don’t know much about him, and his thoughts are strongly analytical which may influence the whole impression. I’d personally like to add some strokes in order to see his ‘lively’ side, to make him more ‘human’, not a machine unraveling conundrums.
