The Gaddi shepards are the nomadic tribe of Himachal Pradesh. They move during summer and winter season. The Gaddis lived in the low hills of Siwaliks during the winter season as high mountains were covered with snow. Their cattle grazed in the scrub forests. During summer season, they moved to the villages of Lahul and Spiti and sowed some crops here .When the snow melted, the Gadis moved on to the higher mountains as they were covered with lush green grass. The mountainous grass provided rich nutritious forage to their animals. By September, they again stopped in the villages of Lahul and Spiti, harvested the summer crops and reaped the winter crops. Then, they came down back to the Siwalik hills to spend the winter season.
