Helen's constant companions were Martha Washington, the daughter of the cook and her old setter, Belle. Although Martha was a few years older than Helen, Helen enjoyed spending time with her. They used to be either in the kitchen, licking off spoons or making ice cream. Or they used to feed the hens and turkeys.
