Political clubs became an important rallying point for the people living in France, the people who really wished to discuss government policies and plan their own form of action.

Most successful political club was the club of Jacobins , which got its name from the former convent of St.Jacob in Paris.

The members of Jacobin club belonged mainly to less prosperous sections of society which includes small shopkeepers, pastry cooks, etc.

Leader of the club was Maximilian Robespierre.
