Manṣabdār, member of the imperial bureaucracy of the Mughal Empire in India. The manṣabdārs governed the empire and commanded its armies in the emperor's name. Though they were usually aristocrats, they did not form a feudal aristocracy, for neither the offices nor the estates that supported them were hereditary.

mansabdars were patrons who joined Mughal service. the received their salaries as revenue assignments called Jagirs. mansabdars did not actually recite on or did the assignments. they only had rights to the revenue of their assignments. they did not collect the jagirs on their own. their servants collected it for them. while the mansabdars themselves served in some other parts of the country.

hope it helps nishtha!
