Nawab which was the term used for the rulers of small provinces in northern India before and during the British rule. The term Nabob was used to denote a rich European, especially British, who had made his fortune in the Indian subcontinent during the British rule,(and had subsequently styled his lavish lifestyle after the Nawabs).
