Russia was a capitalist society back then. This means that most of the factories were privately owned and the workers were exploited. Socialist is a person who believes that the industries and factories should be owned by the society as a whole and not privately owned. In a socialist society, the profit is distributed among the people. In a capitalist society the owner of the factory has the right over most of the profit and workers are often paid less, just like what happened in Russia.
