=>In the Mughal period ijara or farming system was prevalent. A revenue farmer was known as Ijaradar or Mustajir.

=>The east india company's government, during its early period, also farmed out revenues to ijaradars or mustajirs. In 1772 land revenue was settled with the ijaradars by putting land on auction.

Ijardars were mainly responsible for the collection of taxes through bidding. Theywere handed over this responsibility by the officials of the East India Company. The highest bidder was appointed as the Ijardar for a definite period of time.
