Keralaputra "Cera denoting Chera and Alaya meaning adobe or home" is a corruption of Word Cerobutra meaning "the sons of Chera" which was then the defacto name of Kerala. Although, the cities like Nelcynda, Muziris were also sometimes used to denote Kerala. Sometimes Damryke, Lymrke, Tabrabone or Pandeon was used to denote the entire South India as there were no division of states then. Malabar which came from Malai vaaram, meaning "the base of mountain in Tamil" was also used to denote them, hence the word Malaiyal or Malayali.
