Jacobins were the members of Jacobin club mainly belonging to the less prosperous sections of the society.Jcobins played a very important role in the French Revolution. They included small shopkeepers, artisans such as shoemakers, cooks , etc. ,as well as servants and daily wage workers. Their leader was Maxmilian Robespierre. They wore long striped trousers similar to those worn by the dock workers. This was to set themselves apart from the fashionable sections of the society, especially the nobles.
Jacobins planned an insurrection of a large number of Parisians. They massacred the king's guards and held the king himself as hostage for several hours.
Later, elections were held and the newly elected assembly of Jacobins was called as the Convention.
