Bal Gangadhar Tilak was one of the Lal Bal Pal triumvirate. He was the first leader of the Indian independence movement. The British colonial authorities called him "The father of the Indian unrest."
He introduced the slogan Swaraj is my birthright in 1906. He adopted a new slogan given by his associate Kaka Baptista: "Swaraj (self-rule) is my birthright and I shall have it." with the Partition of Bengal, this was a strategy set out by Lord Curzon to weaken the nationalist movement and Tilak encouraged the Swadeshi movement and the Boycott movement.
