Global warming is the slow increase in the average temperature of the earth’s atmosphere because an increased amount of the energy (heat) striking the earth from the sun is being trapped in the atmosphere and not radiated out into space.
The earth’s atmosphere has always acted like a greenhouse to capture the sun’s heat, ensuring that the earth has enjoyed temperatures that permitted the emergence of life forms as we know them, including humans.

Q2: A rock is a naturally formed, non-living earth material. Rocks are made of collections of mineral grains that are held together in a firm, solid mass.

i) Explain with examples the three different types of rocks based on their formation. [ /6]

Answer:

i-There are three main types of rocks: sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic. Each of these rocks are formed by physical changes—such as melting, cooling, eroding, compacting, or deforming—that are part of the rock cycle.

Sedimentary rocks are formed from pieces of other existing rock or organic material.

Metamorphic rocks are rocks that have been changed from their original form by immense heat or pressure

Igneous rocks (derived from the Latin word for fire) are formed when molten hot material cools and solidifies.

ii-Weathering is the process by which rocks and minerals are degraded by environmental factors. These may include physical factors like wind but there are some chemical factors as well that can drastically affect the composition of these rocks and minerals

iii-Erosion is the process in which rock particles are carried away by wind and water. Weathering, on the other hand, degrades the rocks without displacing them

iv-porosity of a rock is a measure of its ability to hold a fluid

v- When the sulfur dioxide dissolves in the water in the clouds, it makes acid rain – rainwater that is more acidic than normal.

vi-A cold, dry climate will produce the lowest rate of weathering. A warm, wet climate will produce the highest rate of weathering. The warmer a climate is, the more types of vegetation it will have and the greater the rate of biological weathering.
