In ground state Co has electronic configuration,
{Ne} 4s2 3d7
In Co+2, we have to remove two electron from 4s.
Therefore Co2+ has electronic configuration,
{Ne} 4s0 3d7
hence Co2+ has 3 unpaired electron.
