Explanation: He had mixed feelings when he saw the soldier lying at the sea shore . he wasn't sure if he should help him but ultimately end up helping the american soldier and took him into his house of thinking that when the soldier would recover from his wounds he would handover him to the japan army but as u must have read it already he helped him to escape opposite of which  he had determined that he would not let the soldier escape previously.
