Group V elements have five valence electrons, which allows them to act as a donor; substitution of these atoms for silicon creates an extra free electron. Therefore, a silicon crystal doped with boron creates a p-type semiconductor whereas one doped with phosphorus results in an n-type material.

Answer: 12-16 semiconductor
Explanation: The elements in group 12 are Zn Cd and Hg .While the elements of group 16 are O,S,Se,Ye,Po.
When the elements from both these groups combine to form compounds , they act as semiconductors due to the presence of free electrons . Hence these compounds are called as 12-16 compounds/semiconductors.
