Nice question.

Crop rotation is the practice of growing different crops in the same land in different seasons. Crop rotation has various benefits such as :-
◆It helps to reduce the attack of pathogens.
◆Avoid the excessive depletion of nutrients from the soil.
◆It also maintains soil fertility and avoids soil erosion.

Ground nut farming is done along with cotton to reduce soil borne diseases, also it helps in efficient nutrient utilization.

The main stem of the groundnut plant puts out runners (narrow stems). These, in turn, produce ‘anchors’ that grow vertically into the soil. The groundnut pods (the peanuts in their shells) grow at the end of these anchors. However, the crop is expected to become more important as it is an excellent rotation crop that can replace maize as a monoculture because it enriches the soil with nitrogen which is very useful for crops. So, farmer grow cotton plant with groundnut crops.
