Why 0.1 M HCL has higher conductivity than 0.1 M CH3COOH ?
Answers
HCl is a very strong acid. When mixed in water its ions completely dissociates in water to form H⁺ and Cl⁻ which enhances the conductivity. But CH₃COOH is a very weak acid, and it does not completely dissociate in water and hence it has a very low conductivity { due to absence of ions}.
Yes, 0.1 M HCl has higher conductivity than 0.1 M CH3COOH because hydrochloric acid has more more amount of ions.
Hydrochloric acid has higher conductivity because it is a strong acid and hydrochloric acid dissociate into positive ions called hydrogen ions and chlorine ions when dissolved in water. Whereas ethanoic acid has lower conductivity because it is a weak acid and ethanoic acid dissociates partially into positive ions called hydrogen and negative ions called ethanoate ions when dissolved in water aur or due to the absence of ions.
