Step-by-step explanation:

4x² + 3x - 1

by middle term splitting method,

sum = 3 = 4 + (-1)

product = -4 = 4 × -1

=> 4x² + 4x -x -1

= 4x ( x+1) -1 ( x+1)

= (4x-1) (x+1) = 0

=> 4x-1 = 0

=> x = 1/4

=> x+1 = 0

=> x = -1
