Why 50% KOH soln is used to absorb CO2 in Combustion analysis ? And why water absorber is fixed first and then CO2 absorber?

KOH is a very strong base (alkali) and CO2 is an acidic oxide. So, the two will readily react to form salt and water.And the formula is given below.

2KOH + CO2 = K2CO3 + H2O
