Reduce

Reducing waste is the most important thing we can do. By reducing waste, we avoid the unnecessary use of resources such as materials, energy and water. It means there is less waste to manage.

How can we reduce waste?

  • Buy in bulk to reduce packaging
  • Take a reusable shopping bag with you so you don't have to use a paper or plastic bag from the shop
  • Say ‘no’ to a plastic shopping bag when you only have a couple of items
  • Choose products that use less packaging
  • Buy reusable items rather than disposable ones
  • Stick a "no junk mail" sign on your letter box
  • Take your lunch to school in a reusable container.

The main purpose of 5R's in the environment management program is to conserve the resources and to save our environment.

Explanation:

• In environmental management programs, the 5R's stands for Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

• It's main objective is the reduction of wastes that are generated.

• In modern times, the extraordinary amount of waste that are being generated in our cities and towns are very hard to manage. To solve this we need to manage the generation of wastes, and that's why these 5R's were introduced where people are encouraged to reduce the generation of the waste, and to reuse some of the products like plastic containers, or glass jars, and most importantly to recycle.

• If we follow the 5R's of the environmental programs seriously then we would be able to sustain the resources, and to use them judiciously which will help in the conservation of resources and will eventually help in conservation of our environment.
