Friend,
We need a standard time to avoid confusions and mismanagement as different regions all over the world have different time. To avoid this confusion we GMT or Greenwich Mean Time. Similarly, different regions in India have slightly different time. To avoid this confusion, we have IST or Indian Standard Time and 82 degree 30 minutes is the Standard Meridian of India. The longitude also passes through the middle of the country. Thus, it is selected as standard meridian of India.
Hope this helps..

➡️82 degree and 30' is taken as the standard meridian of India Because:✔️
➡️82 degrees and 30 minutes longitude passes through the middle of India and has been selected as the Standard Meridian which determines the time for the whole country .✔️
➡️It aviods confusion regarding train and flight timings as there is a time lag of 2 hours from Gujrat to Arunachal Pradesh.✔️
➡️82 degree and 30' is divisible by 7 degree and 30'.✔️
➡️It divides the two hour lag from west to east into one hour by passing through mirzapur in Uttar pradesh.✔️
Hope it helps you.
