A cement floor is laid in small pieces with gaps in between to allow expansion in summer. As objects expand on heating. If cement floor is laid without gaps then in summer floor will get cracking... A cement floor is laid in small pieces with gaps in between as objects expand on heating

Cement floors have gap in between because cement contacts during winter and expand during summer. So due to the contraction or expansion the floor might break.
