Why a combustion reaction is an oxidation reaction?​

Because,

Combustion takes place Only in the presence of Oxygen.

In other words Oxygen is an essential element for the process of Combustion.

In that manner, As Oxygen Involved in those reaction it is also said to be an OXIDATION REACTION.
