Why a constant is put when we remove a proportion sign?

We do it because that is what it means. When we say to quantities are proportional to each other, what we mean is that the variables maintain a constant ratio to each other. ... But the area of a square is NOT proportional to its side, but rather to the square of the side.

okay if we have a is proportional to b.

a ~ b (let ~ be sign of proportionality)

which means that the if a will increase then b will also increase.

but we don't know how much times increases.

therefore we put constant of proptionlaty.

for example...

Voltage ~ current.

so Voltage = R × current ( taking R as constant of proportionality)

normally, the proportional means the two quantities increase when one of them will increase.

on putting the constant of proportionality we can understand how much first quantity is increasing with respect to other quantity.
