why a diode cannot work as amplifier?????

In conjunction with capacitors, one can build a voltage amplifier, using diodes. But a diode alone will only absorb some energy to operate. The thing is its not possible to amplify the signals using diode but diodes can be used in opamp for amplification purpose n that is called as Log opamp.
