Distilled water is normally poor conductor of electricity....Thus few drops of acid is added so that it is easier to break the bond of water so that it dissociates freely into H+ and O2- ions...

HOPE THIS HELPS!!!

TheImmortal49: both the acid and the water dissociates upon passage of electricity...
TheImmortal49: if you add HCl acid, it will dissociate into H+ and Cl-
lavnish123: okay
lavnish123: thanks
TheImmortal49: as well as H2O which will dissociate into H+ and OH-
lavnish123: that h+ ion conducts electricity then?
TheImmortal49: Hope you ate satisfied
lavnish123: ive read that acids give h+ and oh- ions in h20
lavnish123: is this happening after addition of acid?
TheImmortal49: yep....you are right
