The flouroscent tube glows when electricity is passed through it because flouroscent tube is a low pressure mercury -vapour gas -discharge lamp that uses flouroscence to produced visible light . An electric current in the gas exist mercury vapour which produces short -wave ultraviolet light that then causes a phosphor coating on the inside oof the lamp to glow .
