Because sharp knife has less base area which increases the pressure on the object it is acting (as pressure = force/ area). But the blunt knife has more base area which decreases the pressure on which it's acting as compared to the sharp knife .

Explanation:

we know that less area means more pressure so a sharp knife cuts very nicely because it has less area and bluntknife have more area so that less pressure is applied .
