Sound is a mechanical wave meaning it needs a medium to propagate in.
On Earth, sound can propagate through the air provided by the atmosphere.
On the Moon, however, there’s no atmosphere, so there’s no medium for sound to propagate through. Ergo no sound on the moon.
This is also part of the reason why astronauts wear spacesuits while walking on the moon.
Now, one thing to consider is that sound could, and do, propagate through an astronaut’s suit down through the Moon’s surface, and could reach another astronaut who would theoretically be able to hear the sound through their suit.
However, the Moon is so massive that the sound wave would be of such a low frequency that a human would not be able to hear it.
