Something gets toxic when it interferes our internal metabolism .For interfering metabolism,our cell should be irritated with that toxic compound that can be a poison or anything others

We say be safe from poisonous snakes because it may kill us with its venomous bite but we get killed because it enters our system

To enter into system ,volatile toxic substance is so ready because they want to evaporate more likely as compared to non volatile.With air passing in the lungs in such toxic environments

In the alveoli those toxic effects can be seen and as we all know deoxygenated blood comes in lungs for oxygenation so the toxic volatile substance can easily diffuse into blood .As our heart is just like fire brigade putting water on fire it pumps that blood all over the body at such pace that all cells start to feel toxic environment as blood provides oxygen and nutrients on its long route to the surroundings cells .Toxic means either cell starts to stop its vital function because of error in metabolism .More there are many ways of killing cells depending on nature of toxins

At last if you take something toxic it becomes toxic so we humans are analyzing what is poisonous or not.
