The faster that a car can accelerate to a high velocity is crucial to its performance and handling. A car's acceleration is calculated when the car is not in motion (0 mph), until the amount of time it takes to reach a velocity of 60 miles per hour. This means that the initial velocity is zero and the final velocity is 60 miles per hour (26.82 meters per second). In other areas of the world, it's 0 to 100 km/h (27.78 meters per second).

Acceleration depends upon yours car's velocity during motion. Acceleration is only produced when yours car's velocity is variable, it means that yours car's velocity is not constant or same during the motion.. then only it is said that yours car is producing acceleration.
Now, Acceleration has basically 3 types
1. Negative Acceleration
2. Positive Acceleration
3. Zero Acceleration
well there is point to be noted here..
Negative Acceleration is only produced when your car's velocity is slowing down variably during the motion, it means that yours car's velocity is not same while moving down during the motion.. it means that your car's velocity is decreasing variably and henceforth there is negative Acceleration
Positive Acceleration is produced when your car's velocity is not same but increasing variably during the motion.. it means that your car's is moving forward with inequal increasing velocity during the motion
Zero Acceleration is only when your car has constant or same velocity throughout the motion it means that yours car velocity is not changing during the motion.
