According to me, he wanted that his master should leave that place because it was a place where nothing was available easily. But still Iswaran managed to do all the household chores very efficiently.He thought that with his story the master will get afraid and leave that place so that they go and live at some better place happily.(That's the other thing that Mahendra would not have taken the story seriously and would have thought that ghosts do not exist, but as the question is about why Iswaran told the story, I feel that could be the most probable reason)
