Answer:
Preparation of acetanilide from aniline and acetyl chloride : The nucleophilic substitution of aromatic amines with acid chloride results in the formation of N-substituted amides. The reaction of aniline with acetyl chloride is carried out in alkaline medium.Acetanilide is used as an inhibitor of hydrogen peroxide decomposition and is used to stabilize cellulose ester varnishes. It has also found uses in the intermediation in rubber accelerator synthesis, dyes and dye intermediate synthesis, and camphor synthesis.Zinc is added to prevent the oxidation of aniline during the reaction. It reduces the coloured impurities present in the solution.
